Riding team’s first show of the season a success

At the Smith College Show on Saturday, Sept. 29, the Mount Holyoke Equestrian Team placed first with 38 points in a field of eight colleges. Trailing the Lyons by one point was the University of Massachusetts, Amherst, followed by Worcester State University in third place. Amherst College finished next in fourth, followed by Hampshire, Smith and Williams Colleges tied for fifth and Bennington College in sixth. The athletes had a successful show all around, and riders Tess Ahlers ’19, Lily DeBenedictis ’19 and Daisy Sears ’19 clutched regional qualifications early.

Lacrosse: The Lyons shouldered a 14-5 loss to Springfield College. The team played strongly despite facing a tough opponent; the Springfield College Pride currently hold a 5-1 mark in conference play. Mount Holyoke seniors dominated the field, with Leila Kouakou ’18 and Kaitlin Braz ’18 each posting two goals apiece. Deyscha Smith ’19 also contributed with a goal. Goalkeeper Mia Wysocki ’20 kept Springfield at bay, making nine stops throughout the game.
Lacrosse reflects on seniors during final home game of season

Mount Holyoke Lacrosse celebrated their Senior Day by hosting Coast Guard Academy at their last home game of the year on Saturday, April 21. Though the Lyons suffered a 13-5 loss, the four seniors on the team, Leila Kouakou ’18, Kaitlin Braz ’18, Clarissa Leight ’18 and Julia Lankin ’18, were honored for their achievements. Kouakou reached 100 career points last week, only the 15th player in school history to do so, and Braz is currently ranked third in the conference for caused turnovers (35).
Track and field hosts Spring Fling Invitational at home

Mount Holyoke track and field hosted the Spring Fling Invitational on Saturday, posting impressive results across the board. The atmosphere leading up to the event, this week’s Game of the Week, was very festive; several other Mount Holyoke athletic teams stood on the sidewalk leading to Kendall to cheer their fellow Lyons on. The team powered to a fifth-place team finish out of 12 schools, with Eastern Connecticut State taking the win.
