The second Student Government Association (SGA) Senate meeting of the semester took place on Tuesday, Feb. 4.

Before going forward with their agenda for the evening, senators were encouraged to announce upcoming events, give feedback and share concerns. Afterwards, the electoral board read Senate updates.

It is expected that residential hall senator positions vacated at the end of the fall semester will be filled by Feb. 18.

The Student Accessibility Committee was voted in as a new SGA committee at the meeting. In a brief presentation, the five members shared their reasons for creating the committee and the goals and benefits it will offer students.

The group’s goal is to work with the administration to ensure that accessibility can be incorporated into campus institutions. After the presentation, the floor was opened to the audience in order for students to voice any questions, concerns or opinions to the committee before it was officially voted on.

“I am exceptionally excited that the Student Accessibility Committee has been voted into existence,” Megan Horner ’23 said. “I think it is something that the campus really needs, especially because it is made up of students working independently to make sure that students’ accessibility issues are addressed.”

For the rest of the meeting, senators met with their working groups to review goals and plans for the semester and set up a reasonable timeline.

Senate meetings are held every Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. in the Blanchard Great Room.
