As midterm elections approach, some Mount Holyoke students are eager to endorse their favorite candidates. This is evident from social media posts, decorations and in conversations, both academic and personal, around campus. Recently, a lawn sign endorsing a specific candidate, which was later removed, was placed outside South Rockefeller Hall.

On Monday, Sept. 17 at 3:30 p.m., Cayley Evans ’20 was making her way along the wooded path off the Upper Lake loop at Mount Holyoke College, concentrating on an observation lab for her biology class. She was passing through a ferny area by a stream when a loud crashing noise caused her to temporarily lose her bearings.

The state-wide risk level for West Nile Virus (WNV) was raised from low to moderate by the Massachusetts Department of Public Health on Aug. 21 following the discovery of multiple WNV positive mosquito samples. WNV is a viral infection that is spread from mosquitoes to humans or animals. The virus cannot be transmitted between humans.

Mount Holyoke faculty have joined together to create a campus-wide policy prohibiting all romantic relationships between faculty and students. Pre-existing faculty-student relationships must also be disclosed to the College under the new policy. Mount Holyoke joins a growing number of institutions in updating these policies, including, the UMass, Amherst, which recently announced an immediately effective policy barring all faculty-student relationships on its campus.

In an email sent out to the student body on Feb. 1, Rachel Aldis, assistant Dean of Students and director of Residential Life, announced that three new Living Learning Communities (LLC) will be added to Mount Holyoke housing at the start of the 2018 fall term: the Mi Gente LLC, for students who are of Latinx descent, the Interfaith LLC and the Outdoor Adventure LLC. Proposals for these LLCs were submitted by Nov. 10.
