Mount Holyoke offers more than 150 study abroad programs across 50 countries, four of which are introduced below.
Monteverde, Costa Rica: Globalization, Development and Environment
This interdisciplinary program is offered every spring semester in partnership with Goucher College and the Monteverde Institute — a 38-acre international education and research center. In the program, students examine the theoretical underpinnings of development and sustainability in relation to real people, organizations and locations. It is open to qualified students in all majors.
Montpellier, France
Students can take a wide range of courses in the humanities and social sciences at University Paul Valery (UPV), the liberal arts campus of the “Université de Montpellier.” To be eligible for the program students must have completed at least French 203 and one other French course prior to departure in the semester prior to departure.
Geneva, Switzerland
Students spend the fall semester of their senior year at the Graduate Institute of Geneva, beginning work toward their master’s degree. Then they return to the College for the spring semester and graduate in order to finish their degree. Then, students complete their master’s program in Geneva during a fifth year of study. Those who want to attend this program must have completed 96 credits of coursework by the end of their junior year.
Shanghai, China: Economic transformation and business challenges
This program is based at Shanghai University of Finance and Economics (SUFE), the top-ranked finance and economics university in China. All students take a sixcredit intensive Chinese language course with three or four other courses. The program also offers a nine-day trip to Hong Kong, Macau and the Guangdong province. Prior to departure, students must take at least one semester of Chinese language and two economics courses.
