Letters to Mohome

Letters to MoHome is a new column started by MHN’s Global editors to spotlight the journeys of Mount Holyoke College students who are currently studying abroad. In submissions styled as diary entries, students can share their experiences, hopes and fears with the Mount Holyoke community back home no matter what continent they’re on. To submit an entry, students currently abroad can use the Google Form at https://forms.gle/ST3Q9PviecxAWCvo6.

Dear MoHo,

I guess this is how a letter normally starts.

To begin with, I just want to say that I miss you and appreciate that I am part of our community. The experience abroad is simply a part of life, just like when I was at Mount Holyoke and there was so much chaos happening.

During the reading week of my study abroad experience, I escaped to Bosnia from London. According to how I understood reading week, it is a holiday for international students to travel. The experience told me it was worth it and I fell in love with Sarajevo on my last day there. It was not a city that I typically like, but it had a flavor that took me a while to taste it. The factors that get me in love with a city are simple: the cafes, nightlife and maybe if the people are nice there. Turns out it was pretty good.

Okay, what I really wanted to say is I did my essay in Sarajevo, in a cafe called Kawa (it was quite nice), for the Government 100 course I’m taking. I wrote about Thrasymachus' definition of justice, and now I have another International Relation essay due in three days. I don’t know why I am writing this letter now and I hate writing even though all my courses feature writing.

I miss and love you all. Gonna work on my essays…

P.S. Fun fact: I slept through one of my classes on Monday…

Wish you all the best,
