Weissman Center holds virtual town hall event with Rep. Cori Bush and Nina Turner
Rep. Cori Bush and former Ohio Sen. Nina Turner joined Carmen Yulín Cruz, the Harriet L. Weissman and Paul M. Weissman distinguished fellow in leadership at Mount Holyoke College, for a discussion on racial justice on April 26. This event was one in a series of town halls held by the Weissman Center for Leadership as a part of the “Our Voices, Our Platforms” series. According to the Mount Holyoke website, these town halls seek to “explore how people can use their voices to make meaningful change and how people can discover and create the platforms necessary to achieve that transformative change.”
Carmen Yulín Cruz Named College’s Distinguished Fellow in Leadership
After serving as a member of the House of Representatives and mayor of San Juan, Puerto Rico for a combined 12 years, Carmen Yulín Cruz was recently appointed the Harriet L. Weissman and Paul M. Weissman distinguished fellow in leadership at the Weissman Center for Leadership. She will hold the position in the Weissman Center through December 2021, though her contract could extend another year.
Administration and faculty present “module-style” learning proposal for fall 2020
After weeks of planning, consulting and researching options, college administrators have put forward a proposal for fall semester contingency planning to faculty and small student focus groups. Following a virtual town hall in which administrators presented the College’s proposal on Thursday, April 30, multiple professors confirmed that a module plan was in the works.
Weissman Center for Leadership announces new semester in Washington, D.C. program

This week, The Weissman Center for Leadership announced a pilot program in which students may spend a semester in Washington D.C. The program will begin fall 2018, and it is coordinated by Associate Director Janet Lansbury with Calvin Chen, Associate Professor of Politics, serving as the faculty director.
