Ken Burns leads Hampshire in $60 million fundaising campaign

Burns, a Hampshire College alum, was among the Hampshire community members that gathered to kick off the College’s fundraising campaign, “Change in the Making,” on Dec. 3. Burns leads the campaign with four alumni cochairs and says he is proud to be a part of a campaign that is “daunting, but a challenge we are up to.”

Extinction Rebellion joins Sunrise Movement in demonstration

Students and members of the surrounding community gathered with signs and songs on Sunday afternoon to raise awareness about the climate crisis. The group of about 15, stood on the green across from Chapin Auditorium holding signs which encouraged climate activism, shamed oil companies and promoted campus divestment. The signs included a massive banner, which read, “GREEN NEW DEAL.”

“I really see my job as explaining stuff,” Rachel Maddow, host of “The Rachel Maddow Show” on MSNBC and author of “Drift” and “Blowout,” said in an interview with the Mount Holyoke News before her campus book event on Sunday, Nov. 17. The event, run by The Odyssey Bookshop in collaboration with Mount Holyoke College, was the last stop on Maddow’s tour to promote her newest book.

“Moving Forward”: Karine Jean-Pierre talks new book, politics

Karine Jean-Pierre spoke on campus on Nov. 11 in Gamble Auditorium to discuss her new book “Moving Forward.” The event was run in partnership with the Odyssey Bookshop and was open to students, faculty and the general public. 

SGA holds town hall on Health Services

On Tuesday, Nov. 12, Mount Holyoke Student Government Association (SGA) Senate held a town hall with Health Center officials. Director of Health Services Karen Engell, Medical Director Cheryl Flynn, BeWell Director Karen Jacobus and Nursing Coordinator Susan Ferraro spoke on the panel.
