BY MOUNT HOLYOKE NEWS EXECUTIVE BOARD

In response to the results of the 2016 presidential election and the reaction that has echoed through our campus, we as the Executive Board of Mount Holyoke News have dedicated this issue to providing a platform for voices from the Mount Holyoke community.

Mount Holyoke News cannot ignore the political impact that the election of Donald Trump will have for members of our community and our nation, both now and in the years to come.

The president-elect has used divisive rhetoric to threaten the safety of minorities. He has called for a ban on all Muslims entering the United States, accused Hispanic and Latinx Americans of “bringing drugs, bringing crime” and being “rapists” and questioned the validity of Barack Obama’s presidency.  He has been accused of sexually assaulting women and has threatened the safety of journalists and free speech in this country. Now, more than ever, we feel it is our responsibility to fully and accurately cover this event and its implications and provide a space for honest and open dialogue.
