Squash defeats Wellesley, finishes third in CSA championship

This past weekend, Mount Holyoke Squash advanced to the College Squash Association National Championships from Feb. 24–26. The Lyons matched up with Vassar College, Colby College and Wellesley College throughout the weekend.

Continuing their momentum from winning the Seven Sisters Tournament, the Lyons defeated Vassar handily, 7-2 on Friday afternoon. Mount Holyoke topped five of the first six matches with wins. Rose Minichiello ’17 and Amanda Lee ’17 closed for the Lyons with two strong performances.

MHC matched up with Colby College in the semifinals of the Epps Cup (D Division) in the following round on Saturday afternoon. Despite hard-fought plays, the Lyons fell 8-1. Nadindhi Udangawa ’19 carried the team, winning the match 4-1 (5-11, 11-5, 11-4, 11-5).

The team secured a third place finish in the Epps Cup with a 7-2 win over Wellesley on Sunday morning. After falling in the first match, Ragini Ghose ’19 got the momentum pumping with a 3-0 win in her match (12-10, 11-6, 11-7). The Lyons locked in for a 7-2 win to claim third overall.

MHC awaits the announcement of CSA Individual Championships selections held March 4–5.
