The Mount Holyoke rowing team competed at the Head of the Charles Regatta on Sunday, Oct. 20 on the Charles River in Boston, Massachusetts. The Lyons’ varsity eight boat placed 14th out of 27 boats, the best finish for the rowing team at the Head of the Charles Regatta in eight years. Besides New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) competitors Worcester Polytechnic Institution, Smith College and the Coast Guard Academy, the Lyons also competed with both Division II and III schools.
The Lyons’ varsity eight was comprised of coxswain Jaya Nagarajan-Swenson ’22, Piper Kilgore ’23, Hannah LeBlanc ’20, Jocelyn Greer ’22, Johanna Van Fleet ’23, Xena Ault ’22, Simran Kaur ’22, Elizabeth Hazen ’20 and Casey Roepke ’21.
Mount Holyoke Rowing held the 10th fastest time in the race on their first split, reaching the Riverside Boat House with a time of 3:57.209. The Lyons next reached the Weld Boat House at 9:36.552 and the CBC Boat House at 14:26.048. The Lyons reached the finish line with a time of 17:27.674.
The Head of the Charles Regatta concludes the rowing team’s fall season. Mount Holyoke Rowing will return in the spring.
