Tennis
Mount Holyoke Tennis opened their competition season at home against College of the Holy Cross on Sept. 16. Annissa Aamoum ’22 beat the competition in the No. 3 singles match with scores of 6-2 and 6-1.
The Lyons fell to Holy Cross in the rest of the singles and all of the doubles matches. The Lyons’ doubles pairings were Aamoum and Annika Chai ’25, Shweta Kiran Cavale ’23 and Vy Hoang ’24 and Hannah Middleton ’22 and Nikki Cheng ’22.
“The match against Holy Cross was tough, but everyone was motivated and came onto the court as prepared as possible,” Cheng said. “I’ve learned a lot from this match, and I’ll try to incorporate it in my upcoming game.”
“Our team already has a powerful bond even though half of them are new to Mount Holyoke, and it’s their first year on campus,” Cheng added.
Head Coach Aldo Santiago said, “We had a great competitive effort. Annissa Aamoum competed well and got a well deserved win.” Santiago also expressed gratitude for the athletic and College administrative teams “for their never ending efforts coordinating all the groundwork that allows our student athletes to compete.”
Mount Holyoke Tennis will travel to Bowdoin College to compete at the Women’s ITA Northeast Regional Small College Championship on Oct. 1.
Rowing
After Mount Holyoke Rowing underwent their preseason, the Lyons made their way to Albany, New York to compete in the Head of the Hudson. In a Women’s Collegiate 8+ boat race, three Mount Holyoke Boards faced off against one another.
The first boat to cross the finish line included Dara Weingarten ’24, Simran Kaur ’22, Emma Waldron ’24, Piper LaPointe ’23, Katherine Delamere ’25, Anna Karns ’25, Autumn Lee ’24, Mackenzie Windus ’24 and Arin Rinvelt ’24. Their final time was 15:06.11 minutes.
The second place team finished just five seconds behind Mount Holyoke’s top boat and he third and final boat ended with a time of 15:47.47 minutes.
Next, the Lyons will row at Sacred Heart University, Fairfield, starting from Beacon Point Marine on Oct. 2.
