Mount Holyoke College Basketball competed in a challenging matchup against Emerson College this past weekend. The game ended in an 84-33 loss on Saturday, Feb. 3. Libby Harris ’26 had the longest playing time of the night and scored 8 out of 33 points. Emma Goff ’27 scored five points for the Lyons, while Hannah Goen ’27 scored 4 points. Additionally, Teal Howle ’24, Nicole Lutalo ’24 and Jamieson Dean ’27 each scored 3 points. Emma Goff also grabbed a game-high of 11 rebounds and successfully added three steals for the Lyons.

Despite having a slow start in the first quarter with a 23-3 deficit, the Lyons had a significant breakthrough, scoring 9 points in the second quarter, 11 points in the third quarter and 10 points in the fourth quarter. Mount Holyoke worked hard, scoring 16 points off turnovers, 25 rebounds and 11 bench points. The Lyons also had a free throw percentage of 59.1%, while Emerson only had 42.9%.

The Lyons are as determined and optimistic as ever. Goen, a guard on the team, said, “Our team has so much talent and potential! We have moments of greatness, but basketball is a game of runs, and there is always room to improve and prolong our positive stretches and limit them for our [opponents].”

Goen also shared her thoughts on the team’s dynamics. She said, “This is one of the most hardworking teams I've played on. Despite our record, the positivity and hunger for success has never dimmed, and that energy is contagious. I would choose this team again and again for that reason alone.”

The Lyons will conclude their season in a week, next competing on Wednesday, Feb. 7 against Smith College in an away game.
