Mount Holyoke College Squash blanked Bard College 7-0 in the team’s third overall victory this season. The Lyons’ triumph against the Raptors last Sunday afternoon brought the team’s record to 3-6.
Xaria Durocher ’24 opened the competition in a 3-0 shutout with scores of 11-6, 11-4 and 11-2. Giselle Cabrera ’22 then took down an opponent in four sets with final scores of 5-11, 11-5, 11-2 and 11-7.
“I feel very [lucky] to continue playing, because it’s my last season and I’m really proud of my teammates for all the work they have done,” Cabrera said. “The squash team is working really hard on and off [of] the squash court, and we are really happy to see our individual improvement.”
Cabrera also expressed gratitude toward Head Coach Erin Robson. “MHC is very lucky to have her. I believe she is a great squash coach because she pushes her players on and off the squash court, and also cares about us as people, not only as players,” Cabrera said.
Both Melissa Marquez ’22 and Elba Barra Montgomery ’23 shutout the Raptors in separate 3-0 matches. Paige Gershuny ’25 and Elena Frogameni ’22 finished the day in shutouts of their own. The final slot came from a default by the Raptors.
The Lyons will travel to Brown University on Feb. 13 to close out their regular season dual competitions.
