for almost 2 years, the sports section has lost its privilege of being a full spread 2 page section. this is due to mhn facing a reduction of staff for sports, and now we have to share with the books section. however, the editors of sports and its sole writer stand united, and will take no more of this nonsense. we deserve our full page back!!! here are reasons why sports is entitled to a full page:
Mount Holyoke Swimming and Diving team honors seniors
Sitting in the stands by the poolside, Mount Holyoke families and students cheered on athletes competing in the annual Mount Holyoke Swimming and Diving senior meet, hosted at home against Smith College on Feb. 5. Mount Holyoke triumphed with a score of 163-131, with diver Kathryn Murphy ’22 breaking the one-meter board school record for the second week in a row.

Mount Holyoke Track and Field reflects on 1 year since shutdown
Mount Holyoke student-athletes spent the summer waiting for news about future practice and competition schedules, which were made uncertain by the COVID-19 pandemic. For many spring student-athletes, their season came to a premature close in early March 2020. The affected teams included lacrosse, riding, rowing, tennis and track and field. While there were hopes of competitions resuming this school year, they were once again canceled at the beginning of the year. Current track and field juniors reflected on what they have learned over the course of the last year being unable to compete.
Lyons in the Wild: Langhan Dee
Mount Holyoke News caught up with Langhan Dee, Class of 2004. Dee is being inducted into the Mount Holyoke College Athletics Hall of Fame in 2020 for her success in indoor and outdoor track. During her time at the College, Dee went to nationals for track three separate times, and placed in the top three more than once.

Three divers from Mount Holyoke qualified for the 2020 National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division III Northeast Diving Regionals at Springfield College on Feb. 28 and 29. Coach Rachael Araujo won the title of New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Coach of the Year this year. This win is a first in the Mount Holyoke Swim and Dive program history.
